Betty lived in Warrington all her life, the vast majority of it in the same house. She was married to Alan Poole for over 55 years and her main hobbies when younger were knitting, crossword puzzles and reading.
Betty became a fan of folk music during the sixties, after hearing her daughter Elizabeth practicing songs to sing with a group called White Hart, consisting of, Geoff Bibby, Elizabeth Poole and Cynthia & Dave Cotton. Geoff Bibby was the founder of the Ring O'Bells folk club, where Betty and Alan became regular attendees at the various premises which the Ring O'Bells used in the Warrington area, including the Ring O'Bells, Bulls Head, The Causeway and British Legion in Grappenhall.
Around 1995 the Railway Folk Club in Lymm (the forerunner of Lymm Folk Club) also became a popular venue. Betty and Alan were regulars for many years until Betty became too ill to attend.
She will be sadly missed for she always had a smile and an impish sense of humour whenever she attended and made many friends within the folk circle.
