Ruth Fuga and Ken Powell
These two people emerged individually onto the Folk scene many moons ago from different line-ups, joining forces around 15 years ago as part of the much acclaimed trio 'Risky Business', and bringing a combination of music, although predominantly contemporary, to both the Festival and club circuit. Now, after a short break, we are pleased to see them return as a double act, entertaining us with the same quality sound we have all enjoyed over the years. Ruth remains one of most exceptional female vocalists in the UK. Her interpretation of the material they choose leaves one in no doubt of her abilities as a singer. Ken has been admired for his ability to enhance and strengthen the personal achievements of many a singer and musician over the years with his competent, dedicated guitar playing and if that's not enough, has now started to gain a huge reputation as a serious guitar maker !

Colum Sands
Colum Sands has performed in over thirty countries around the world, confirming the universal appeal for the songs and stories with which he observes the minute and often humorous details of life. A member of the internationally renowned Sands Family from County Down, Colum established his reputation as a songwriter with the release of his first solo album, Unapproved Road in 1981. Songs like Whatever you say, say nothing, and Almost every circumstance were soon in the repertoire of artists from Billy Connolly to Maddy Prior and June Tabor. His second album The March Ditch inspired a special BBC television documentary and songs like The man with the cap and Looking the loan of a spade confirmed his unique ability to observe locally and appeal universally. On his travels around the world he soon discovered that many of his songs had arrived before him, carried by other singers in the folk process and on recordings by fellow performers like Andy Irvine, Tommy Makem and Liam Clancy, Roy Bailey, Mick Hanley, Gerard van Maasakkers, Rosemary Woods, Iain Mc Intosh and Enda Kenny.

Kerfuffle
...music with immense vitality & style! Kerfuffle have played a stunning set at our Festival for two years running, so inviting them back was an easy decision, as the young traditional quartet won over the audience with a balanced set of songs, tunes and memorable dancing from Hannah James. The young bar staff of the Rugby Club were heard to say, "I've never heard music like it before... it's just so cool!" Four of the finest young musicians on the folk scene today, Sam Sweeney, Hannah James, Jamie Roberts & Tom Sweeney perform their music with immense vitality and style, drawing their influences from all over Europe and perform a vibrant and inventive live set. If you didn't see them last time, ask around Lymm, everybody is talking about them! STOP PRESS! This could be your last opportunity to see them as Kerfuffle, as they are disbanding later in the year to go off and do other things... ...and ...get this! Stewart Lever has 15 free tickets for anyone under 15!

Thursday 1 July 8:30pm £7.00 OR £6.00 advance booking | The Perfectly at Home String Band
The Perfectly at Home String Band came together, for the first time, at our 2008 Festival. They totally surprised everyone, including Lymm Folk & Acoustic Music Club organiser Stewart, as it brought together two acts, Nick & Lin Tysoe and Nelson Peach, who are Club Residents (see below or click the links). They make a wonderful sound... with Nick Tysoe (vocals, guitar and banjo), Lin Tysoe (vocals, autoharp, mandolin and double bass), Lesley Nelson (vocals, guitar, double bass and harmonica), Rick Nelson (vocals, mandolin and guitar) and Richard Peach (vocals, fiddle, guitar and double bass). The band members have a wide variety of musical backgrounds including playing folk, jazz and blues for the past thirty years. The band came together through a mutual love of American Old Time music. This music started in the Southern Appalachian mountains, where if you wanted to go out to a dance on a Saturday night you had to make sure at least one of your friends could play an instrument or you had nothing to dance to. With the advent of cheap(ish) radio in the twenties it became popular with a much wider audience. Basically, it's about everyone having a good time. So come along and enjoy yourself. Foot tapping, clapping and even dancing is allowed.

Friday 2 July 7:30pm £7.00 OR £5.00 advance booking PLEASE NOTE: This event takes place at Lymm Methodist Church Hall! | Ceilidh with The Marmalade Band What a way to end Lymm Folk & Acoustic Music Club's part of the Festival, dancing the evening away! The Marmalade Band currently includes Clare Rigby (flute and whistle), Marian Sudbury (violin), John Jocys [melodeon], Helen Jocys (accordion), Andrew Burnie [guitar], John McNeill (bass) and Kathie Taylor (flute and whistle). Sadly, holiday flight problems meant Kathie missed last year's Festival Ceilidh, so better luck this time!! This year's caller is Paul Gee - who will definitely gee you up (sorry!) if you're reluctant to dance! There won't be any worms this year... because we're in the Methodist Church Hall, just 75 yards from the Spread Eagle. Only those who've been to Festival Ceilidhs in the Railway marquee will know what I'm talking about! |
See if you can spot yourself dancing - unless you didn't, o'course! | |

Lymm Folk Club is blessed with a fine complement of 'Residents' - these are the performers who provide tireless support throughout the year for our guests!
They are:
Stewart Lever: Stewart was the club organiser until November 25th 2010, when he handed over to Bernard. He sings and plays guitar, and his material ranges from traditional, covers and self-penned.
Bob and Kate: Although Bob and Kate aren't performers, their support is just as important - if not more so! Bob collects the door money, and Kate sells the raffle tickets! Without them, the club wouldn't function!
